Denison Road Underpass

The new Denison Road will pass under the tracks and be re-aligned between Jane Street and Weston Road. The existing Denison Road East will be converted into a cul-de-sac, as will Sam Frustaglio Drive. Arthur Street will become a turn-about.

Updates

  • April 29 Tie back installation (e.g. adding structural supports) is ongoing at both CP Rail and GO Rail Bridges. As of the end of April, almost 200 of the 476 tie backs have been installed. Grading of the railway corridor between Cobalt Street and Victoria Avenue has begun and is expected to be complete by the end of May.Work to complete the Sam Frustalgio Drive cul-de-sac will likely begin in June. This will include work on the existing water main followed by grading and construction of the new curb, sidewalks and paving for the new cul-de-sac.
  • April 9 – We will begin weekend work to grade the corridor between Cobalt Street and Victoria Boulevard starting April 13, 2013.
  • Attention – Weekend work will continue until June 2013, with work on Saturdays and the occasional Sunday. Weekend work hours are Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (when required). There will be no work during the holiday season between December 22 to 26 and December 30 to January 2, 2013.

Project Schedule

  • Utility relocation start: January 2011
  • Construction start: Spring 2011
  • Construction complete: Fall 2013

What we are doing

  • Work on the CP Rail Bridge is almost complete. On November 27, 2012 we successfully poured over 680 cubic metres of concrete for the CP Rail Bridge.
  • In November 2012, excavation for the new Denison Road East began from the GO Rail Bridge towards Weston Road. Other work removal of overgrowth in the rail corridor is underway between Cobalt Street and Ray Avenue, as well as grading of the corridor on the CP Rail side. All of this work is slated for completion in April 2013 and is in preparation for signal work and reinstating the final track alignment.

How this will affect you

  • The majority of the work will take place during regular construction hours.
  • Some construction work may be required outside these hours. Advance notice will be provided to the surrounding community when are working outside the regular hours.
  • Denison Road will be closed between Jane Street and Weston Road for a minimum of one year during construction
    • a signalized pedestrian crossing will be maintained at all times
    • there will be minimal impact to Weston Road
  • Night work will be lighter construction using cranes and trucks:
    • Noise from trucks reversing will be heard
    • Lighting will be needed to maintain visibility

Noise and Vibration

Noise and vibration monitors have been set up along the Denison Road Underpass project area to monitor any noise and vibration generated by the construction. This data will be posted on a weekly basis.

The following graph displays 1-hour averaged noise levels measured in decibels (dbA).
