GO improves bus announcement policy to provide more information to customers

We have reviewed our policy on announcements by bus drivers to determine whether we are doing everything we can to make sure all our customers have the information they need to make their trips.

Starting May 22, 2008, drivers will begin announcing the location of every bus stop as the bus approaches the stop.

This is in addition to existing announcements prior to the departure of bus trips, at all major terminals, and at trip end-point locations.

This change to our announcement policy will ensure that all passengers have the information they need to get to their destination on the GO.

Past train on-time performance statistics

Our goal is to provide reliable and safe service to meet the needs of our customers. However, some train trips are more reliable than others, depending on scheduling and operational factors. Many things can impact the reliability of our train service, including freight and VIA trains, equipment problems, severe weather, and medical emergencies. The performance of a trip on a rail corridor can vary considerably from day to day and is unpredictable. We're working diligently to improve our on-time performance.

Visit our past train on-time performance pages that list historical performance of individual weekday train trips. The information on these pages may be helpful in planning which train you choose to take.

GO Transit partners with City of Mississauga, Province of Ontario, and federal government for Bus Rapid Transit

Soon, GO Transit riders will be able to enjoy a smoother and faster commute through Mississauga and the Greater Toronto Area. A new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) running along Hwy. 403, Eastgate Parkway, and Eglinton Avenue will provide a two-lane busway dedicated to GO and Mississauga buses. There will be no other traffic, no signals, and no stop signs.

The BRT will have 12 major stations in Mississauga and provide connections to key destinations such as Pearson International Airport, Kipling Station, York University, the Town of Oakville, and the Mississauga City Centre.

Phase one construction is expected to be completed by 2012, making it the first tangible segment of GO’s overall inter-regional BRT plan. Part of GO’s current BRT-type service will then move to this new dedicated busway. GO originally launched its BRT-type service, also known as the Hwy. 407 Express Bus service, in 2000 as its first step towards its inter-regional BRT plan from Oakville to Pickering.

Learn more about this project at Public Information Centres held by Mississauga’s BRT Project Office on April 8-9, 2008, or visit Mississauga’s BRT website.

What can I do to create a more sustainable planet? Is it too late to make a difference? These were some of the questions answered by renowned Canadian environmentalist Dr. David Suzuki at the general luncheon for the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) 2007 Rail Conference. This year the conference was held in Toronto and Suzuki was invited by APTA to share his views on the connection between energy, environment, and sustainability.

We've launched On-Train TV (OTTV)

We are one of the first public transit systems in North America to have monitors on board trains broadcasting news, weather, sports, entertainment, advertising and more. OTTV is being installed on our train fleet in phases.

Passengers wishing to hear the audio can tune their personal radios to FM 88.1 or 88.5. Until the installation is complete, sound may be unavailable at some times, and visual content may be limited as the system continues to be fine-tuned.

OTTV is owned and operated by United Mobile Broadcasting Corporation, in partnership with Exclusive Advertising Inc., the company that sells advertising space inside our trains. OTTV will generate revenue for GO and help offset our overall operating costs.

Safety tips for Union Station customers

Customer safety is very important to us. Union Station is a historic facility, and was not designed for the growing number of people who use it each day. Managing the flow of customers who move through the station during the morning and afternoon rush periods is a challenge. Please see our list of Union Station safety tips for more information.
